Chris Fisher
A typical Capricorn because he’s “sensitive and rubbish with money,” Chris’s first career choice involved hammering things.
A Liverpool lad, his big dream from the age of nine was to be a carpenter but recession dashed those hopes when he got laid off part way through his apprenticeship with 40 other tradesmen. At a loss over what to do next, Chris met a guy in a bar who worked for the local radio station and asked him for a job. For ten months, the 19-year-old worked unpaid at the station all the while sending the boss demo tapes and pestering him for a chance on air. It worked and superstardom beckoned.
Dubai became his new home in 1999 and much to his surprise he’s become a bit of a local celebrity, which “feels strange” he says, “but I like it because to do this job you have to have a bit of an ego.”
After hours, Chris likes hanging out at Thai Chi restaurant at Wafi Pyramids. You might also catch him at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club quiz night on a Tuesday. It’s all a long way from the boy who used to be late for school because he was busy pretending to be a superstar every morning.
